What is WEDOC all about?
We have all seen and experienced the headlines in Canada:
"Canada has worst ER/referral wait times in 11 developed countries ..."
"Patients needing admission to hospital stuck in ER longer, report says ..."
"Hospital ER times reveal some 'disturbing' waits ..."
"Canadian emergency rooms plagued by overcrowding..."
"1 in 5 emergency room visits unnecessary: study ..."
"...emergency room scales back on doctor hours- 'Increased fiscal restraint and scrutiny by government' to blame, internal memo says '"

WEDOC is a unique opportunity to learn and share with other emergency operations from across Western Canada! We will share stories, successes, and challenges commonly faced in our EDs!

Situated on the majestic seashore of beautiful Victoria BC, this year’s conference was inspired by surfing imagery. The surfer represents our emergency teams walking fearlessly into the wild ocean of the ED, into overwhelming waves of patients with uncertainty and danger lurking just beneath the surface. With various cross-provincial speaker panels, invited speakers, and innovative abstracts, we expect to tackle many shared issues and ideas to improve our EDs. Our popular learning buffets will be back — where participants meet with speakers in intimate small table discussions to learn, share, and expand on various concepts. We are also bringing back the awards for the BEST PERFORMING EDs awards!

Objectives:

Discuss the fundamental issues at the system level to improve Emergency Department clinical workflow
Identify the successes and lessons learned by people working to improve emergency care
