CBT Fredericton (New Brunswick)

Overview: CBT Canada and Dalhousie Family Medicine Residency are pleased to present a Ten-Minute CBT workshop on Friday, May 18, 2018. The workshop will be held at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital Chat Theatre from 9:00AM to 4:30PM. Registration begins at 8:30AM.

Medical CBT is specifically designed for the ultra-brief appointments typical of primary care. In this workshop you'll learn the essentials of a skill that may fundamentally change how you cope with the all-important psychological side of medical practice.

The workshop
covers the Ten-Minute CBT approach, fundamental tools of persuasion, and important CBT pearls regarding chronic worry (GAD), illness anxiety disorder ("hypochondriasis"), major depression, vaccine refusal, self-criticism, panic disorder, chronic pain, persistent depressive disorder ("dysthymia"), non-compliance, borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, PTSD, substance abuse, suicidality, and other disorders.

Learning Objectives:

1. Learn to break patients away from their "empathy addictions"
2. Learn to structure ten-minute appointments to maximize impact
3. Learn the vital importance of not working harder than most patients

Head instructor
Greg Dubord, MD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and the prime developer of medical CBT. He has presented over 400 workshops, including over 50 for the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and is a University of Toronto CME Teacher of the Year.

Tuition is $495 for physicians, $295 for allied health professionals, and $195 for residents. A catered lunch at 12:00PM is included.

*American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) members are eligible to receive up to 18.0 Prescribed credit hours for attendance at CBT Canada’s 6.0 hour (/18.0 Mainpro+ credit) workshops due to a reciprocal agreement with the College of Family Physicians (AAFP, 2016).
