BC's Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS is once again offering an HIV Intensive Preceptorship for health care providers in Fall 2019.
Audience: Nurse practitioners and family physicians who are providing care to at least one patient living with HIV.
Program Focus: Trainees will develop competence and confidence to provide primary care management to HIV+ patients, informed by the principles of Treatment as Prevention and Targeted Disease Elimination, including:
Assessing patient and initiating antiretroviral therapy as appropriate
Monitoring and identifying patients with treatment failures and toxicities
Assessing HIV-related co-morbidities
Developing a comprehensive care plan for all HIV+ patients
Program Structure: The program is CFPC and Mainpro+ accredited, and consists of three modules:
Self- directed online learning ( approx. 10 hours, completed prior to Nov 25)
Clinical rotations in HIV primary care and specialized clinics at St. Paul’s (Nov 25-29, 2019)
Mentorship with an HIV physician (3 months)
Funding: Maximum of three spots are available for family physicians and nurse practitioners working within NH region. There are funding opportunities available for these seats.
