Northern Health is pleased to announce the appointment of DR. SHANNON DOUGLAS to the position of NI Lakes/Omineca Medical Director effective November 20, 2017. Dr. William Osei will be stepping down from his position as NI Lakes/Omineca Medical Director and will be available until the end of December 2017 to transition responsibilities to Dr. Douglas.
Dr. Douglas is a rural family physician in the Lakes/Omineca region. She has been the Chief of Staff in Fraser Lake for the past year and a half and was the Physician Lead prior to that. She has been actively involved with:
- Supporting local initiatives with the NI Rural Division of Family Practice to improve recruitment and retention of physicians and local quality improvement projects.
- Teaching medical students, nurse practitioner students and residents.
- The establishment of the Ruby Ellen Van Andel Community Cancer Clinic in Vanderhoof which serves the region and has provided regular outreach oncology services to Burns Lake from 2007 to present.
In her new role, Dr. Douglas will be responsible for providing effective leadership in planning, delivering, and evaluating medical services, which includes the quality and performance of the medical staff for NI Lakes/Omineca region. This region includes Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake, Fort St. James, Burns Lake, Southside, and Granisle. She will work collaboratively with communities and physicians to recruit and retain physicians.
Northern Health has adopted a co-leadership model that informs the way in which medical and administrative leaders work collaboratively to advance the NH strategic direction and goals. The NI Lakes/Omineca Medical Director will work in co-leadership with the NI Chief Operating Officer, Penny Anguish.
