Northern Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Firas Mansour to the position of Medical Director Prince George effective July 1, 2021.
Dr. Mansour comes with a wealth of experience working as a physician and medical leader in the north. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Damascus, Syria and did his internal medicine residency in Chicago, Illinois. He has worked as an internal medicine specialist in Quesnel since 2001 and at the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) since 2006. Dr. Mansour has held the following leadership roles within Northern Health: Medical Lead, Cardiac Diagnostics and NORTH Heart Function Clinic at UHNBC since 2017, Head of the Department of Medicine at UHNBC since 2018 and Medical Lead, Northern Health (NH) Regional Cardiac program since 2019.
In his new role, Dr. Mansour will be responsible for providing effective leadership in the planning, delivering and evaluation of medical services which includes the quality and performance of the medical staff. He will work collaboratively with UHNBC Departments, Division of Family Practice and Medical Staff Association to recruit and retain physicians.
Northern Health has adopted a co-leadership model that informs the way in which medical and administrative leaders work collaboratively to advance the NH strategic direction and goals. The Medical Director, Prince George will work in a co-leadership model with Penny Anguish, the Northern Interior (NI) Chief Operating Officer. They will continue to develop Tertiary Services in the north and strengthen UHNBC relationship with the Divisions of Family Practice, Medical Staff Associations and the First Nations Health Authority.
