Discontinued drug: Chloroquine 250 mg tablets

Date

Issue: After being on long-term backorder for approximately 2 years, chloroquine 250 mg tablets have now been discontinued by the only manufacturer in Canada. NH does not currently have any supply on hand in any facilities. Chloroquine is indicated for prophylaxis and treatment of susceptible malaria. Alternatives are dependent on several clinical factors (e.g. prophylaxis vs. treatment, travel history, strain sensitivity, age, pregnancy) and an Infectious Disease consultation is recommended.
