UPDATE: St. Paul’s Hospital Cardiac Patient Diversion Plan

Date

Providence Health Care is taking many steps to reduce patient volumes for the CST electronic health record project go-live on November 16, 2019 at 0600 hours at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH), Mount Saint Joseph Hospital (MSJ) and Holy Family Hospital (HFH). Here are the plans being activated in partnership with the Patient Transfer Network (PTN), Cardiac Services BC, the Health Authorities and other health partners. This memo provides an update on St. Paul’s Hospital diversion planning.

Impact on NH Cardiac Patient Transfers

  • Physicians do not need to change their referring practice. The process for red transfers will remain the same.
  • Vancouver General Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital will prioritize taking Northern Health cardiac inpatient catheterization referrals.
  • Lions Gate Hospital will hold 2 Critical Care Unit beds in the unlikely event that additional capacity is required. If this capacity is required, the process will be coordinated by the Cardiac Triage Coordinators and in consultation/communication with the referring and receiving physicians.

Cardiac Triage Coordinator

Please note that the Northern Health Cardiac Triage Coordinator (CTC) facilitates transfer of cardiac patients requiring a higher level of care to one of the five tertiary cardiac sites in BC. The CTC liases on a daily basis with the BC Cath Lab sites to ensure the most timely access to care.

To help facilitate timely acceptance and transfer of Northern cardiac patients, it is imperative that all stable yellow cardiac angiogram referrals be directed to the Northern Health CTC by fax at: 250-645-6315
