Consultation on Conflict of Interest Practice Standard for Physicians

Date

The College develops practice standards and professional guidelines to assist physicians in meeting high standards of medical practice and conduct. The topics focus on specific issues that are relevant to the practice of medicine. Practice standards and professional guidelines are frequently revised to ensure that they are up-to-date and continue to meet the needs of changing practice environments, evolving health-care practices, and stakeholder values.

The College is inviting feedback from the public on a newly revised Conflict of Interest practice standard. The standard addresses the topic of conflict of interest as it relates to practice, research, relationship with industry, and education. While it may not be possible to ensure that every comment or suggested edit will be reflected in the final version, all feedback will be carefully considered by the Patient Relations, Professional Standards and Ethics Committee in light of the College's mandate to serve and protect the public. Following this consultation, the draft standard will be presented to the College Board for final approval.
