Important Information on Ebola Virus Disease

Date

On July 17, 2019, the World Health Organization declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern regarding the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A protocol has been established in BC for all physicians to immediately notify their local Medical Health Officer (MHO) if they suspect Ebola virus disease in any patient. If the patient is in a hospital, the hospital infection control/medical microbiologist should also be immediately contacted. While a risk assessment is being discussed with the MHO, the patient should be placed in a single room with the door closed or in an isolation room if available.

National and provincial guidance documents related to infection control, laboratory work-up, clinical guidance, public health management and notifications are posted on the BC Ministry of Health website.
