Respectful and compassionate communication is an essential part of a healthy workplace culture and optimal team functioning in health care. Conversely, poorly managed conflict can lead to safety problems, negatively impact quality of care, and contribute to poor individual and team morale. The health care environment is vulnerable to interpersonal conflicts related to competing demands, high stakes, staff exhaustion and burnout, as well as moral distress. This two-hour interactive workshop is intended to support participants in developing awareness and skills for meaningful and effective conversations in the health care setting. Healing Communication is based on the spirit of mindfulness (drawing from the teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh) and Nonviolent Communication (which is an approach to compassionate engagement with conflict, developed by Marshall Rosenberg and expanded upon by Oren Jay Sofer). Participants will be invited to engage in experiential mindfulness practices as well as role-play in nonviolent communication.Speakers:Dr. Joanna McDermidDr. Dzung VoDr. Sabrina GillHow to join:Step 1: Click meeting link and click on 'Join a Meeting'.Step 2: Enter the Zoom Meeting ID: 630 2913 5982Step 3: Enter the passcode: 145561 then click ‘Join Meeting.’Disclaimer: The CME Event Calendar contains information originating from other sources.
