• Review background pathophysiology of hyperglycemic emergencies 
• Review approach to workup of patients presenting with hyperglycemic emergencies 
• Discuss initial management of patients with hyperglycemic emergencies in the ED
• Review NH DKA/HHS protocol 
• Discuss controversies in DKA/HHS management 
• Discuss special considerations in context of patients with CHF and those on hemodialysis 
• Review complications of DKA/HHS management
