Please join us virtually for IMG Orientation Conference fall 2021. This conference will be delivered virtually over two half-days and will cover the following topics: Introduction to Indigenous health, cultural considerations of communicating with patients in Canada, ethics, liability, communication, professionalism, physician self-care and resilience. Please note: this conference is for physicians registered in the provisional class with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).

Intellectualize and have an emotional understanding of the historic and ongoing determinants of health for Indigenous people in Canada
Describe the challenges to providing health care to Indigenous people and strategies to improve outcomes
Recognize the physician’s role and the role of Traditional Elders and culture in improving the health of Indigenous Peoples
Describe what Personal Learning Plans (PLP) are and who is eligible to participate
Review the benefits of structured goal-setting and concierge support. Identify common barriers to cross-cultural communication
Recognize how one’s own cultural beliefs and attitudes impact relationships with patients
Define the elements of cultural competence
Define physician burnout
Describe evidence-informed strategies for self-care and resiliency to prevent burnout
Identify challenges in physician self-care
Review common medical-legal risks for physicians
Describe common pitfalls in documentation
Review specific documentation issues
