The BC Government has released new guidance on applying the Mental Health Act for treating youth under 19 experiencing severe mental-health and substance-use challenges. We recognize there is significant interest in this guidance and how it should be interpreted and applied across the province for youth presenting with severe substance use disorders.The Ministry of Health requested the support of BC Children’s Hospital leaders to convene pediatric experts from across the province to guide this work. With coordination support offered by Child Health BC, provincial engagement and planning will begin imminently.
