The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs) in partnership with Len Pierre Consulting are looking forward to hosting a community-based experiential learning session on Wednesday, June 10th from 5 pm to 9 pm at the Lhtako Dene First Nations Longhouse in Quesnel, BC.We are grateful to hold this session on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territory of the Lhtako Dene First Nation who have lived on and stewarded these lands since time out of mind.During these sessions, physicians will experience:Cultural safety teachings through an immersive, “circle and the box” learning Teachings and protocols from local/regional Indigenous communitiesA shared meal, language, history, and storiesA deeper understanding of residential school traumaConnections with local health staff and providers.The opportunity for on-going learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communitiesIn these sessions, themes of colonial genocide, systematic separation from Indigenous identity, land and culture and the resulting mental and physical health disparities, will be discussed. These themes may surface personal stories and participants are encouraged to prepare to hear this difficult journey.Please note that sessionals and mileage exceeding 50km one-way will be covered by the JCCs. We provide sessional time and mileage to physicians, a meal, and a stipend to ITMs who are not salaried.
