Please join Doctors of BC, in partnership with the Provincial Health Services Authority virtually for prescribing COVID-19 anti-viral medications. With the arrival of the new COVID-19 anti-viral medications in BC, there are a number of requirements doctors need to know when it comes to prescribing Paxlovid and Sotrovimab including the treatment window for each, dosage protocols, how they contradict or interact with other medications, etc. Currently BC has received 4,000 doses of Paxolovid, with an additional 4,000 due this month and another 12,000 in March. The COVID-19 Therapeutics Committee (CTC) has been working on conditional recommendations for tiers of patients most likely to benefit from this medication, which is used in mild to moderately ill patients to shorten the course and severity of illness, and decrease the probability of hospitalization.
Speakers:
Maureen O’Donnell, Executive Vice President, Clinical Policy, Planning and Partnerships, Provincial Health Services Authority
Jolanta Piszczek, Chair, BC COVID-19 Therapeutics Committee (CTC) and UBC Clinical Associate Professor
Eric Partlow, Clinical Instructor, UBC Department of Infectious Disease
Jennifer Grant, Medical Microbiologist, Vancouver Coastal Health
Learning objectives:
Discuss the approach for “waves” of prescribers
Review the CTC recommendations and evidence
Discuss real-world experiences identifying patients and prescribing Paxlovid
