One of the global suppliers of heparin, China, has experienced active ingredient issues due to various reasons and this is expected to increase strain on other heparin suppliers.

As such, a proactive approach to conserving the stock we have in Northern Health is recommended.

There are three suppliers of hydroxyurea capsules in the Canadian marketplace.

The single source vendor for nystatin 100,000 units/g ointment is shorted and may be discontinuing the product. There is a small supply of the 30 gram tubes in Northern Health at this time.

The prolonged shortage of hyoscine 10 mg tablets has resolved.

All conservation strategies can be lifted and staff can resume regular use and prescribing.

The Prince George Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program (PG CPRP) started in February 2016 as a partnership between the Northern and Rural Cohort of the UBC Department of Physical Therapy, Northern Health, and the YMCA of Northern BC.

Following the fatal case of rabies in BC on July 14 there has been a considerable increase in the provision of Rabies Post Exposure Prophylaxis, which includes both rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin, across the province.
